| These are the most common
problems. Please check before calling the HELP DESK. |
| 1. Confusion over
who you are! |
| Your account is identified by a
'user id' or 'user name' ie tsd1234. Microsoft Explorer can be a bit confusing as
it asks for your 'user name' meaning your 'user id' not your 'name'. |
| 2. User id &
password must be in lower case |
| The user id (eg tsd1234 and
password are 'case sensitive' and must be lower case not upper case. It easy
to have the 'CAPS LOCK' key on and inadvertantly key these in upper case. |
| 3. 'Call Waiting' |
| 'Call waiting' beeps if someone
else tries to call you while you are on the phone. If you have call waiting, disable
it for modem calls. Dial *#43# to find out, #43# to disable it, and *43# to enable
it. |
| 4. Fax software
using the modem |
| If you have any FAX software on
your PC it likely that is configured to run automatically when you start your PC and it
will sit there constantly ready to receive any incoming faxes. Of course all the
time it is using the modem and will not let any other software use the modem. So you
need to ensure your fax softwae has been stopped before attempting to connect to the
Internet. 5.
Telephone connection keeps dropping out
This could be a problem with the amount of "noise" on your
telephone line, or the distance you are from an exchange.
