A domain name is an Internet address which can be used for email and the name of a web site. For example apple.com or microsoft.com are domains which can be used for web sites like http://www.apple.com and http://www.microsoft.com. They can also be used for email, sjobs@apple.com or billg@microsoft.com. Who owns a domain? Once a domain has been registered it is owned by the registrant which can be person, company or organisation. It does not need to be a registered company unless it is a .ltd.uk or .plc.uk domain names. Is my domain available? There are currently over 10 million domains registered and more being taken by the second. It is therefore important to register your company name on the Internet as soon as possible. Can I register more than one domain name? You can register as many domain names as you like. Are there any on going costs on my domain? Yes, every two years you have to decide whether you want to renew your domain name. The current registrant will receive the first opportunity to renew the domain name. What happens if the domain I want is already registered? If the domain name you are looking for is already registered then you can wait to see if it becomes available, or try again with a different extension...ie .co.uk.........com.......org......etc Can I move a domain to a new Internet company? A domain name can be moved between any Internet company. It is a simple process and normally takes about 24 hours to do. We do not charge for any domain name transfers. Can I register a .fr, .de or another European domain name? Unfortunately we do not offer European Registration although we are able to host these domain names. How does a domain get deleted? A domain can be deleted by the registrant at any point in time. The domain can also be deleted if the registrant forgets to pay the renewal fee or decides not to renew the domain. Why should I register a domain? Your domain name is your identity on the Internet. If you want people to find you on the Internet, either to send you an email or visit your web site, you should have a domain name to help them find your location. Most companies select domains which are relevant to their company either their products or company name. Some companies and individuals like to register domain names that they may use in the future or just to protect the name. What can I do with a Domain? Your domain name is your identity on the Internet. It can be used for Email and your web site to make it easy for your customers to find you. You can market your company, your products and your services to a worldwide audience by creating an Internet site. You can even move into E-Commerce and use your site to make your company money. Alternatively you could make it easier for your customers to find you and do business with you. What is a NIC? NIC stands for Network Information Centre. A Network Information Centre is responsible for administering every Domain Name record registered under its particular top-level domain. Each top-level domain has its own NIC. More than one top-level domain can be administered by the same NIC. For example, the .com, .org and .net top-level domains are run by InterNIC. Each NIC is responsible for setting the fees for registering a name under their top-level domain. The UK NIC is called Nominet.
